It’s ability to convey an idea and instil it in an audience’s mind shows the power that language can have as a means of communication. A given idea can then either spread or die, change opinions or reinforce them, keep people in their place or rouse them, or it can evolve into more ideas each with their own or it can stagnate and paralyse thought. Essentially, and because of this, it harbours a power we’re rarely conscious of.
Language learning is like rowing upstream, not to advance is to drop back. So for upward mobility we require rich and consistent language exposure.
Many learners in India struggle to achieve fluency, command and flair over the English language because of the outdated and archaic methods of teaching. They are forced to rely more on text-based learning and memorising grammar and vocabulary, hence, they struggle to use the language in context.
Languages are not just learnt through structures but also through feelings, emotions, aptitudes as well as social, economic and cultural factors. Hence, it is critically important to make the experience of learning a language an engaging and a relatable one.
India now claims to be the world's second-largest English-speaking country. The most reliable estimate is around 10% of its population or 125 million people, second only to the US and expected to quadruple in the next decade.
For more than 50 years, English has been a language of privileged, but today it must become a more common vernacular, say intellectuals, business executives, and parents alike. If we wish to be a global cyberpower, if we want a larger share of the world markets, if we want greater political relevance... we must start out with pilot projects to promote English. Year-round intensive English instructives for students, youths, men and women who wish to improve their English communication skills.
Being a Language Coach I focus on helping my students learn how our language system works and then how to put it into action with relevant vocabulary, correct pronunciation, grammar and interpersonal nuances. As I strongly believe that every student has the potential to excel in the art of communication.
